Scarlett is a Material Researcher and Designer investigating environmental and social narratives embedded within industrial systems. Working across design and material innovation, their practice explores the hidden impacts of mining, mineral processing, and global supply chains, questioning the systems that shape our material world.

Through research-led experimentation with industrial by-products and overlooked resources, Scarlett reimagines material possibilities. Their work utilises material residues for processed outcomes that challenge conventional ideas of transparency and regeneration while highlighting the relationship between extraction/consumption and environments.

By bridging critical research with material development, Scarlett creates work that fosters greater responsibility within production systems and proposes more circular futures rooted in resource awareness and environmental accountability.

Concretions explores the intersection of two highly resource-intensive industries: fashion and the built environment. 

Through material experimentation and research into industrial waste streams, Scarlett investigated opportunities to reimagine discarded materials of these industries as new resources through the activation of low-carbon binders.

Combining waste textiles, recyled aggregates alongisde disused plaster, the project develops new geopolymer applications. These new textiles challenge conventional distinctions noting the permanence and fragility of these indsutries through material contrast.
